Belarus, Russia plan to set up joint livestock selection-genetic centers in 2017-2018

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia are planning to set up joint selection-genetic centers in 2017-2018, Ivan Sheiko, First Deputy Director General of the Research Center for Livestock at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), told a press conference, BelTA has learned.

“At the session on 30 June the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State discussed the concept of a new Union State program to set up selection-genetic centers in Russia and Belarus. These will be the centers in dairy, seed production, poultry production using modern biotechnological methods. The centers to be set up this year and next year are expected to yield the results within the next five years,” Ivan Sheiko said.

The Union State program “Development of the competitive livestock industry based on selection, genetic and biotechnological innovations” is pending approval. The program is designed to run for five years.
