Belarus promises comfortable conditions for direct investment from China

ST. PETERSBURG, 16 October (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in attracting direct investment from China and is ready to create comfortable conditions for this, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said during a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Ping in St. Petersburg on 14 October, BelTA has learned.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, Belarus pays much attention to the implementation of the Belt and Road concept of China's President Xi Jinping. “We have a big project, namely the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone. We have great expectations of this project and look forward to more robust investment activity of Chinese companies. At this stage of our investment cooperation, these are mainly Chinese tied loans. This, of course, is a good help in the economic development of our state. But we would be interested in attracting Chinese direct investment and are ready to create comfortable conditions for the Chinese business in Belarus,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. In this regard, he noted that a number of documents were signed, including laws and presidential decrees.

According to the chairman of the Council of the Republic, in the near future there will be an opportunity to discuss with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce technical assistance for two Chinese projects in Belarus, i.e. the construction of two Olympic facilities - a stadium and a swimming pool. “There are agreements between the two heads of state on the matter. We just need to examine the details. Next week your specialists will visit Belarus to examine the suggested sites, discuss the corresponding agreement,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

Belarus welcomes China's progress in economy, culture and social projects. “China demonstrates great development successes. You have big prospects. China is strongly on track towards achieving its goal. I think that your country will become the world's number one economy in the near future. There is a good foundation for sustainable social and economic development based on the qualitatively new principles,” he said.

Zhang Ping, in turn, thanked Mikhail Myasnikovich for his contribution to the sustainable development of the Chinese-Belarusian contacts. “We highly appreciate your activity,” he stressed.
