Belarus prime minister visits Slovak nuclear power plant

NITRA REGION, 28 April (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov visited the nuclear power plant in Mochovce, Slovakia on 28 April.

At present the Mochovce nuclear power plant uses two power-generating units with VVER-440 reactors. Two more VVER-440 reactors are being built. Raising the output of each reactor to 535MW is an option.

As part of the tour of the nuclear power plant the Belarusian head of government went to the local nuclear power awareness-raising and information center, the training control center for the third and fourth units of the Mochovce nuclear power plant. A presentation of the Slovak national electric company Slovenske Elektrarne was arranged. Apart from that, there were plans to visit the construction site of the third and fourth units of the Mochovce nuclear power plant.

Representatives of the Mochovce nuclear power plant management said that 95% of the third unit has been built and 82% of the fourth unit has been built so far. The third unit is supposed to be commissioned in late 2018, with the fourth one to go online 12 months later.

Andrei Kobyakov's two-day visit to Slovakia ends today. On 27 April the Belarusian prime minister met with Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico for one-on-one talks and expanded-participation negotiations. Andrei Kobyakov also took part in the opening of the Belarusian-Slovak business forum and met with representatives of large Slovak companies.
