Belarus prime minister in favor of affordable medications in drugstores

BORISOV, 25 July (BelTA) – Prices for medications in Belarus should stay at an affordable level. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement as he visited the Borisov-based pharmaceutical company Borimed during an out session of the Council of Ministers' Presidium on 25 July, BelTA has learned. The session was held to discuss the development of Borisov District.

Andrei Kobyakov stressed: “The Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry is now busy analyzing market prices, including prices for imports. People should not have to pay extra for medications — domestic ones or imports.” In his words, import substitution efforts should continue. At the same time Andrei Kobyakov noted that all the necessary medications — Belarus-made ones and imports — should be available on the market.

As far as Borimed is concerned, out of the 270 medications the company makes, only the price for Citramonum is questionable in comparison with imports but the price should be fixed as from 1 August.

An out session of the Council of Ministers' Presidium is scheduled to take place on 25 July to discuss the development of Borisov District. Before the session participants of the event visited a number of industrial enterprises in Borisov. Participants of the session are expected to pay attention to ways of bolstering the competitive ability of Borisov District, the development of small and medium business, and the creation of new jobs. Results of the measures taken to bolster the competitive ability of Borisov District enterprises and prospects of their development in 2017-2020 will be discussed as well as prospects of housing construction and the increase in construction and installation services volume. The development of agricultural companies in Borisov District will also be evaluated.
