Belarus prevents illegal import of Br90bn worth of goods on border with Russia in 2015

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) - Mobile teams of the Belarusian customs service prevented the attempts to smuggle goods worth Br90 billion, on the Belarusian-Russian border, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Customs Committee of Belarus.

“Belarusian customs officers monitor the export and import of goods not only at the external border of the Eurasian Economic Union but also at the Belarusian-Russian border. The mobile teams of the customs service prevent attempts to transport goods in violation of the customs legislation,” the press service said.

The State Customs Committee of Belarus noted that most violations are connected with the movement of the embargoed goods to Russia. In 2015 the Belarusian customs stopped more than 200 attempts to smuggle Br49 billion worth of goods to Russian consumers.

“In order to protect the Belarusian market from substandard products, the Belarusian customs foiled numerous attempts to import goods without necessary shipping documents, including phyto-sanitary and veterinary certificates. In 2015, Belarus prevented about 225 attempts to import meat, fish, dairy, vegetables, fruit, nuts and other goods of poor quality or without necessary shipping documents worth over Br40 billion from Russia to Belarus,” the press service noted.
