Belarus, Poland to cooperate in restoring E40 waterway

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Poland have agreed to cooperate in restoring the E40 waterway on the Dnieper-Vistula section. A memorandum of understanding was signed by Belarus' Minister of Transport and Communications Anatoly Sivak, Polish Minister of Infrastructure and Construction Andrzej Adamczyk and Polish Minister of Maritime Economy and Internal Waterways Marek Grobarczyk, BelTA has learned.

“We discussed the issues regarding the feasibility study which was conducted at the expense of the European Union. We identified the key elements of this project, set up a working group with a view to its further development,” Anatoly Sivak noted.

The ministers agreed to deepen cooperation in the field of railway, road and air transport. “With Andrzej Adamczyk we discussed the development of the border crossing points, maintenance of road and rail bridges. We will soon sign an agreement to build a new road bridge (Domachevo-Slovatichi crossing point - note by BelTA). We agreed our plans regarding the development of infrastructure of the pan-European transport corridor II,” Anatoly Sivak noted.

In general, according to the Belarusian minister, Poland is the main partner of Belarus in terms of development of the transit potential. From January to August of this year the transit transport increased by 13%. From January to August the container transportation from China to Europe and from Europe to China increased by about twice as compared with the same period a year earlier.
