Belarus PM unveils desired price for Russian gas

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Minsk counts on purchasing Russian gas at the same price as Russia's Smolensk Oblast does plus transportation costs, Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Rumas told reporters on 6 December, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Rumas laid out Belarus' stance on the price for Russian gas. “We would like to purchase Russian gas at the same price as is in effect for Smolensk Oblast, the Russian region that is closest to us, plus transportation costs,” the premier noted.

“It is a matter of negotiations when Belarus will get the same price as Smolensk Oblast,” he added.

The Belarusian head of government emphasized that “equal terms for economic operators, which is the main goal of integration, should also comprise equal prices for energy”.

A reminder, in line with the national budget bill for 2020, the price for Russian gas for Belarus is projected to remain the same as in 2019. In 2019 Belarus purchases Russian gas at $127 per 1,000 cubic meters.
