Belarus PM in favor of tight schedule for preparing Eurasian Economic Union's Customs Code

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – It is necessary to clearly determine the timeframe for preparing the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement in his speech during the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan, Armenia on 20 May, the press service of the Belarus government told BelTA.

According to Andrei Kobyakov, negotiations are constantly protracted, resulting in revisions of previously agreed arrangements. “As a result, we make no progress. We may even take steps back. We need a clear-cut timeframe, a deadline if you wish,” he remarked. In his words, 1 December 2016 seems like an optimal date for ending the development of the Customs Code.

During the expanded-participation session the Prime Minister of Belarus also noted that participants of the restricted-attendance session had made up their minds on common approaches to pricing oil and oil products. “Less than an hour ago we finished the restricted-attendance session and, generally speaking, I hope we have found approaches to pricing oil and oil products in the Eurasian Economic Union for the sake of finalizing the points that satisfy all sides in order to inform the heads of state that this concept is ready for their approval,” said Andrei Kobyakov.

The Prime Minister also stated that as far as the internal operation of the Eurasian Economic Union is concerned, there was no doubt that in that day's agenda Belarus prioritized the concept for forming common markets of oil and oil products. “I'd love to hope we will be able to come to terms on the matter. These discussions have been going for far too long. It is necessary to make some progress. We are ready for a constructive dialogue on the matter during its detailed discussion during the session,” stated Andrei Kobyakov.
