Belarus plans to boost food exports to Russia in 2017

MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – Belarus will sell more food to Russia in 2017 than in 2016, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats told reporters on 30 December, BelTA has learned.

The minister noted that the boards of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry and the Russian Agriculture Ministry decide on the amount of food supplies every year. “We set certain reference targets for Belarusian and Russian processing enterprises. According to our projections, Belarus' milk and dairy exports to Russia will go up from 4 million tonnes in 2016 to 4.1 million tonnes in 2017. We also expect an increase in our meat exports,” Leonid Zayats said.

As he commented on the position of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) regarding Belarusian meat and dairy products, Leonid Zayats stressed: “Amid Rosselkhoznadzor's groundless complaints, we are not leaving the Russian market. The Belarusian manufacturers of agricultural products export to the common Eurasian market facing tough competition. Therefore, all producers and agricultural enterprises should work hard to provide high-quality raw materials for the processing industry and ensure high quality of their products.”
