Belarus-Moscow trade up 31% in Q1 2017

MOGILEV, 23 May (BelTA) – In Q1 2017 Belarus increased its trade with Moscow by 31% in comparison with the same period last year, Sergei Cheremin, Minister of the Moscow City Government, Head of the Moscow City Foreign Economic and International Relations Department, said at a briefing after the meeting of the working group for cooperation between Moscow and Belarus on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus remains to be an important foreign economic partner for Belarus. Over the past five years we have added over $25 billion in mutual trade to the overall foreign economic cooperation between Russia and Belarus. Moscow is an interesting and promising market for Belarusian companies. The Russian capital annually consumes more than 12 million tonnes of food, 10% of which is supplied by our Belarusian partners,” said Sergei Cheremin.

A serious growth in the supplies of Belarusian agricultural products to Moscow was registered in Q1. Belarusian utilities and construction equipment, buses and trolleybuses remain in great demand. “We hope this positive trend will stay this year,” Sergei Cheremin said.

Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets emphasized the momentum in every area of cooperation with Moscow. “The working group meetings help consider future cooperation, outline concrete areas and projects and also address issues. We manage to do it and reach positive results in our mutual relations,” he said.

The working group discussed the prospects of trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Moscow, in particular cooperation in mechanical engineering and transport, construction, supplies of utilities and passenger equipment, lifting equipment, food products.

Guests attended an exhibition of utilities equipment produced by Mogilev Oblast companies. The program will also include visits to a number of industrial companies of the oblast center: Babushkina Krynka, Mogilevliftmash, Mogotex and others.
