Belarus may complete bilateral negotiations with several WTO member states in H1 2017

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarus may complete bilateral negotiations with a number of countries in the first half of 2017, BelTA learned from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

On 27-28 March 2017 the next round of bilateral negotiations on market access was held in Geneva within the framework of Belarus' accession to the WTO. The Belarusian delegation held meetings with eight WTO member states. It managed to narrow the scope of uncoordinated issues and create prerequisites for the completion of bilateral negotiations with a number of countries in the first half of 2017,” Belarus UN mission informed.

The Belarusian delegation held talks with the WTO Accessions Division to discuss further steps to advance the negotiation process at the multilateral track, including the preparation of the Draft Report of the Working Party (one of the most important final documents for accession to the WTO) and the organization of the 9th meeting of the Working Party on Belarus' Accession to the WTO in the second half of 2017.

The Belarusian delegation included Director of the Department for Foreign Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Roman Sobolev, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Serpikov, the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Belarus in Geneva.
