Belarus keen to put investment opportunities on show in Pakistan

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Belarus intends to present its investment opportunities in Pakistan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei Yermolovich noted as he met with Naeem Zamindar, chairman of Pakistan's Board of Investment on 4 April, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Islamabad.

The sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Belarus-Pakistan investment cooperation, including within the framework of a memorandum of understanding between Belarus' National Agency of Investment and Privatization and the Board of Investment of Pakistan dated May 2015. Andrei Yermolovich and Naeem Zamindar reached a preliminary agreement to hold a forum on the investment potential of the two countries in Pakistan in 2018 with the participation of government bodies and businessmen of Belarus and Pakistan. Priority will be given to projects in mechanical engineering, agriculture, textile, pharmaceutics, and banking.

Belarus and Pakistan established diplomatic relations on 3 February 1994. The opening of the Belarusian Embassy in Islamabad in November 2014 gave a massive boost to Belarus-Pakistan cooperation. The commitment of the two countries to political dialogue is stipulated in the Islamabad declaration of bilateral partnership of 29 May 2015, the agreement on friendship and cooperation between Belarus and Pakistan of 10 August 2015, and the joint statement of the Belarus president and the Pakistani prime minister dated 5 October 2016.

Belarus and Pakistan closely cooperate on the international arena in solving topical issues on the international and regional agenda. The two countries ensure effective interaction through the permanent mechanism of political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs.
