Belarus, Karelia to develop cooperation plan of action for 2019-2021

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia's Karelia are working on a cooperation plan of action for 2019-2021, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Forestry Ministry.

It is expected that the document will be signed at a meeting of the working group in Minsk in November. The draft document includes blocks on trade and economic cooperation, cooperation in the utilities and humanitarian sectors.

Forestry Minister Vitaly Drozhzha leads the Belarusian part of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Karelia.

In 2017 the trade between Belarus and Karelia totaled $21 million. In January-July 2018 the bilateral trade increased by 30% from the same period in 2017. Belarus' main exports to Karelia include trucks, orthopedic fixation devices, prosthetic appliances and sugar. Belarus mainly imports Karelia's pipe fittings, tires, galipot, resin acids, other goods.
