MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Belarus hopes to intensify cooperation with Poland in a wide range of areas, Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said at the meeting with Mateusz Morawiecki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Finance of Poland on 24 October, BelTA has learned.
In January-August 2016 the trade with Poland went up by about 10% in comparison with the same period last year. According to the Prime Minister, the countries have a considerable potential for increasing mutual trade. “We should develop not just mutual trade, but also move forward to the production and trade cooperation,” he stressed.
The Belarusian head of government cited an example of successful cooperation of Polish companies with Belarus. Among them are such companies as Atlas (building materials), Unibep Group and others. “These are the results of full-format cooperation with the high value added on the territory of Belarus with the participation of Polish banks and insurance companies,” noted Andrei Kobyakov. Belarusian companies also implement promising projects in Poland. For instance, MAZ is implementing a project of assembling cargo vehicles in Poland. “This year we are mulling over the production of passenger vehicles, MAZ buses,” the Belarusian head of government added.
Promising for the two countries are also agricultural processing projects. “I think we could work here on the terms of providing access for agricultural products to the markets of both the countries. We are interested in attracting investors from Poland, including the modernization of the agro-industrial facilities,” Andrei Kobyakov said.
According to the Prime Minister, Belarus and Poland may develop fruitful cooperation in many areas, including healthcare, education, science and tourism. “We believe that all these areas deserve close attention. The fact that we are resuming active operation of the joint Belarusian-Polish commission on economic cooperation will help advance our bilateral cooperation,” he said.
In turn, Mateusz Morawiecki expressed hope that the current visit of the Polish delegation to Minsk would help the two countries intensify mutually beneficial partnership.
