Belarus hopes to make top 30 in Doing Business ranking by 2020

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – First Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Matyushevsky hopes that Belarus will make the top 30 in the Doing Business ranking by 2020. He made a relevant statement at a joint meeting of the two chambers of the Belarusian parliament on 27 May, BelTA has learned.

“If we implement the government action program [for 2016-2020] I have been talking about, we have good chances of making the top 30 in the next five-year period. Still, this will happen only if we act consistently, as we tend to stray from our good intentions as time goes by. We should be consistent to achieve this goal,” Vasily Matyushevsky stressed.

The First Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out that a comprehensive program is being implemented in Belarus to improve the country's standing in the Doing Business ranking. “The program touches on a wide array of matters including the tax and customs administration, the registration procedures and others. We are working in this direction,” Vasily Matyushevsky said.

He pointed out that Belarus has made a considerable progress in the Doing Business index. The country currently occupies 44th position and ranks among the economies climbing in this ranking at the fastest pace. “From this point of view, our performance is quite strong,” Vasily Matyushevsky noted.
