Belarus' Gomeltransneft Druzhba pumps one-billionth tonne of oil to Ukraine

GOMEL, 20 October (BelTA) – The one-billionth tonne of oil was delivered via the Druzhba oil pipeline system in the Mozyr-Brody section operated by OAO Gomeltransneft Druzhba on 20 October, BelTA learned from the company's social development department.

The milestone was recorded at the Mozyr hub pipeline control station at 12.45 p.m. It took 53 years of meticulous work to reach this mark. The construction of the Mozyr-Brody pipeline that delivers oil to Ukrainian refineries, Hungary, Czechia, and Slovakia finished in 1963. The facility became operational a year after.

In this case, specialists note, the matter is about “net” oil supplies: the volume of oil is calculated in net tonnes, which leaves out the mass of ballast, namely water, chlorine salt, and mechanical impurities.

In February 2014, the volume of oil transported via Gomeltransneft Druzhba's oil pipeline system westwards through the Mozyr-Adamovo section reached 1.5 billion tonnes. This was the volume of oil delivered to Polish and German refineries since the construction of Gomel's Druzhba.

Founded in 1964, OAO Gomeltransneft Druzhba is affiliated with the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim. The total length of the company's oil pipelines makes up around 2,000km. Throughout its history, Gomeltransneft Druzhba has transported over three billion tonnes of oil.
