Belarus, Georgia stepping up cooperation in competition policy

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Georgia are stepping up cooperation in the field of competition policy, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade.

“Last week Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Vladimir Koltovich took part in the first conference to discuss the current trends and problems dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the competition policy in Georgia. During the conference the Belarusian Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade and the Competition Agency of Georgia signed a memorandum on partnership in the field of enforcement of antitrust laws. The purpose of the memorandum is to strengthen the cooperation in the enforcement of competition policy,” the press service noted.

During the conference, Vladimir Koltovich met with First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili, Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili. The parties discussed trade relations between Belarus and Georgia, including the supply of Georgian wines to the Belarusian market.

“In 2016, the mutual trade between Belarus and Georgia surged by 63% to total $73.2 million. Georgia also expressed interest in supplying other types of agricultural products to Belarus,” the ministry said.

Vladimir Koltovich, as an honorary guest, together with Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy, and members of the Georgian government, took part in the opening ceremony of the first Days of Belarusian Culture in Georgia.
