Belarus expects Russia to lift all artificial market barriers

MOGILEV, 12 October (BelTA) - Belarus hopes that all artificial barriers for its products in the Russian market will be lifted, Belarus Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats said at the 5th Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The minister noted that despite the efforts the barriers and restrictions for Belarusian meat and dairy products still remain in place in the Russian market. “In most cases these restrictions have been imposed on a far-fetched basis and artificial,” Leonid Zayats noted.

The minister recalled that in his speech at the forum Russia's Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Sergei Tsyb spoke of the need to improve the health of the nation. Belarusian organic products could be used to replace oil palm and cheese-similar products in the Russian market, Leonid Zayats said.

Leonid Zayats and Russian Deputy Agriculture Minister Ivan Lebedev visited the Mogilev-based Babushkina Krynka dairy company and its raw zone. The Russian colleagues made sure once again that the raw materials and dairy products made from them are of high quality and safe. The company is the winner of numerous awards of Russian and European exhibitions. Yet, the company's access to the Russian market has been restricted for the time being.

“I hope that prudence will prevail and our products will again be massively represented in the stores across the Russian Federation,” the minister said.
