Belarus eager to participate in projects in Russian Veliky Novgorod

MOSCOW, 11 July (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to participate in the construction of an airport runway, a city block, and roads for the Russian city of Veliky Novgorod. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko put forward the proposal as he met with Governor of Russia's Novgorod Oblast Andrei Nikitin and top officials of the oblast government on 11 July, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Semashko led a Belarusian delegation to Veliky Novgorod. The sides discussed topical matters and promising cooperation avenues during the meeting. Belarus is interested in further increase in trade turnover with Novgorod Oblast through stepping up mutual shipments of merchandise and through implementing joint projects in the area of civil engineering and utilities industry, the ambassador said. In 2018 bilateral trade turnover totaled $96.2 million, 13.6% up from 2017. In January-May 2019 trade amounted to $42.4 million, 15.2% up from the same period of last year.

Vladimir Semashko went on saying: “Belarusian organizations are ready to increase mutual trade turnover in a more effective manner. They are ready to take an active part in housing construction and social construction in Novgorod Oblast taking into account the successful experience of mutually beneficial cooperation with other regions of Russia. Belarusian companies are ready to build social infrastructure using its own money and let municipal authorities buy it out later.” As examples Vladimir Semashko mentioned the construction of a runway in the Veliky Novgorod airport, the construction of a city block in the city, social and cultural facilities, roads and road infrastructure in the region.

The ambassador talked about possible shipments of machines, equipment, aggregates, construction machines, forest harvesters, trucks, construction materials of Belarusian make for the sake of implementing investment projects. “Our suppliers are ready to use preferential lending schemes and international leasing ones,” Vladimir Semashko noted.

Novgorod Oblast Governor Andrei Nikitin noted the oblast is interested in further increasing the volume of mutual trade, in deepening manufacturing cooperation ties, in implementing joint scientific and R&D projects, including innovative ones. The sides also mentioned mutual interest in deliveries of Belarusian passenger vehicles, peat extraction machines, and lift equipment. The commissioning of a new assembly enterprise to make Belarusian lifts at premises of OOO MLM Nevsky Lift in Kolpino (part of St Petersburg) on 16 July will open up additional opportunities. The enterprise is designed to make about 3,000 lifts per annum. It has been established by Belarusian Mogilevliftmash and its dealership OOO MLM Neva Trade. The enterprise has the exclusive rights to sell Belarusian lifts in Russia's Northwestern Federal District.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko noted the Belarusian side is ready to sign an agreement on cooperation between the governments of Belarus and Novgorod Oblast in the sphere of trade, economy, science, technology, social and cultural affairs as well as an action plan to implement the agreement. Vladimir Semashko suggested signing these documents during the forthcoming 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in St Petersburg.

Vladimir Semashko invited representatives of the government and the business circles of Novgorod Oblast to participate in the Belarusian Industrial and Investment Forum, which will take place in Minsk in September, and arrange a session of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Novgorod Oblast as part of the forum. Vladimir Semashko also invited them to visit Belarusian mechanical engineering enterprises.
