Belarus develops plan of action to facilitate local economic growth

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Economy Ministry has drawn up a plan of action to address economic issues faced by the regions, Belarus Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Chervyakov told the media before the session of the ministry's board, BelTA has learned.

The working groups examined in detail the issues of investment and construction, setting up new enterprises, reducing costs and rational import substitution, raising the average wages to Br1,000 by the end of 2017 and keeping them at this level in 2018. “The meeting also examined the issues related to property relations, business environment, innovative infrastructure and start-up movement. “The Economy Ministry together with the government bodies worked out a plan of specific measures on all issues. The plan includes more than 100 positions,” Alexander Chervyakov said.

During the session Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky said that the plan includes the measures to increase investment, create conditions for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, to involve unused and inefficiently used property into economic turnover, to create jobs and increase wages, to improve the quality of planning and forecasting regional economic development, to enhance the manufacturing, agriculture and construction industries, to develop transport infrastructure, and to enhance the capacity of innovative development of the regions.

“In general, the plan aims to address the current problems and is of a short-term nature. Its implementation will help improve the situation in regional economy,” the minister said.

From 27 March to 11 April, the working groups of the Economy Ministry, the Labor and Social Security Ministry and the Architecture and Construction Ministry traveled around the country's regions to examine the local problem and to develop prompt and strategic measures to facilitate economic growth. The groups, which were chaired by the Deputy Economy Minister, included representatives of the government, the National Agency for Investment and Privatization, and the Research Institute of economy at the Economy Ministry of Belarus.
