Belarus, Czech Republic mull over €500m investment projects

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – Belarus and the Czech Republic plan to implement €500 million worth of investment projects, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told media after a meeting with his Czech counterpart Lubomir Zaoralek on 30 June, BelTA has learned.

“The two Ministries of Foreign Affairs are currently considering plans for promising joint investment projects to the total tune of more than €500 million. It is of high importance that in the new geopolitical realities our counterparts from the EU member states, and first of all from the Czech Republic, view Belarus as a reliable partner which is open to dialogue and are ready to search for new forms of cooperation. We welcome this progress in our relations,” said Vladimir Makei.

The Belarusian diplomat stressed a still hugely untapped potential in Belarus-Czech relations, and in the trade and economic sector in particular. “The structure of our economies are very much similar. It should be considered as a foundation for mutually beneficial and mutually complementary joint projects in the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union, first of all, through the strengthening of manufacturing cooperation,” he said.

In turn, Lubomir Zaoralek stated that Czech businessmen are interested in the implementation of projects in Belarus. “In particular, Czech Metrostav shows interest in the construction of the Minsk metro. A lot will depend on Belarus' decisions,” the minister added.
