Belarus' Customs suggests dropping charges for minor offenses

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – The State Customs Committee of Belarus suggests minimizing penalties against private companies. The relevant ideas were discussed when Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko met with Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Yuri Senko, BelTA has learned.

The head of the Belarusian customs service said: “At present commercial entities, who find out they have failed to pay some miniscule customs duties, are supposed to face administrative charges. We suggest dropping administrative charges if the economic operator finds the lapse on its own and pays up.”

In his words, the agencies concerned are now actively debating the idea. “I think the initiative will be legislated soon,” added the head of Belarus' Customs.
