Belarus-China interregional cooperation hailed as vibrant

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – Belarus and China have significantly intensified interregional cooperation, Belarus' Prime Minister Sergei Rumas said at a meeting with Governor of China's Jiangsu Province Wu Zhenglong on 28 September, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and China have recently significantly intensified interregional cooperation, increased the number of visits at various levels, established sustainable contacts. The regions are connected by the Silk Road railway, which makes a considerable contribution to bilateral trade,” said Sergei Rumas.

The Belarusian head of government stated that during the previous meeting the leaders of Belarus and China emphasized special importance of cooperation at the regional level, which has the greatest potential, as each Chinese province is as big as an average European country.

According to the premier, the development of relations with the People's Republic of China remains a priority in Belarus' foreign policy. It is also a good example of building equal, respectful and mutually beneficial relations between one of the world's biggest powers and a small country. Relations of trust-based comprehensive cooperation and partnership between Belarus and China have been actively developing. The two states maintain dialogue at all levels, the head of government added.

Sergei Rumas invited Wu Zhenglong to discuss further steps to expand cooperation between Belarus and Jiangsu Province. “It is important for me to hear your opinion on what the government can do in order to help our cooperation move in the direction the two heads of state are aiming at,” he said.

Jiangsu Province lies in the east of China. It is one of China's most developed regions. In 2017, Jiangsu's GDP reached $1.26 trillion and accounted for 10.4% of China's total GDP.
