Belarus, China discuss prospects for setting up joint R&D centers

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – Belarus and the People's Government of Harbin, China plan to consider the possibility of establishing joint laboratories and R&D centers within the framework of China's Belt and Road initiative. Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee (SSTC) of Belarus Alexander Shumilin met with Deputy Secretary-General of the Harbin People's Government Liu Yango to discuss the plans in Minsk on 22 May, BelTA learned from the SSTC.

The parties are set to boost the scientific and technical cooperation in the field of medicine and pharmaceutical industry, manufacturing industry, environment, and agriculture, and implement several innovative projects at the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone.

The SSTC noted that the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus, the investment company China Merchants Capital, and Industrial Park Development Company signed an agreement on key terms of the agreement on the establishment of a China-Belarus venture capital fund in Beijing on 15 May. Work is underway to put together a tentative portfolio of investment projects to be financed by this fund.
