Belarus' central bank forecasts no sharp change in national currency exchange rate

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – The National Bank of the Republic of Belarus does not expect any sharp changes in the exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble, Chairman of the Board of Belarus' National Bank Pavel Kallaur told media after the opening of the 13th edition of BankIT'2016 forum on 19 October, BelTA has learned.

“This is the current market rate. There are no tendencies that can negatively influence the country's balance of payment in the future. We do not expect any shocks until the end of the year that could possibly affect the exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble,” noted Pavel Kallaur.

He stressed that the scenario approach to forecasting allows taking into account any possible risks and consequences. “When we forecast different processes within a year, we also take into account the gas talks with Russia and the negotiating process with international organizations. That means that the forecast we have made until the end of 2016 and for 2017 contain the risks that may emerge,” he explained.

Minsk is hosting the 13th international forum of banking information technology BankIT'2016 on 19-21 October. The event usually gathers more than 1,300 banking and IT experts, government bodies and consulting specialists. Experts will discuss the development of banking information technologies, digital banking, and information security.
