Belarus' central bank calm about prices on consumer market

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – The situation with prices on the consumer market in Belarus is stable, BelTA learned from the monthly review of consumer prices and rates released by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB).

The aggregate trend inflation indicator has stood at 3.2% year on year for the last four month. The average intensity of the consumer price growth has been at 2.8% for the last two months, indicating the prices on the consumer market are stable.

The slowdown of consumer prices growth in June was attributed to falling prices for fruits and vegetables year on year. In June 2018 prices for fruits and vegetables dropped by 4.4% from June 2017 due to the high figures registered in Q2 2017 when prices for fruits and vegetables soared due to unfavorable weather.

In June 2018 the annual core inflation totaled 3.1%, up from 2.9% the month before. Rising prices for meat and meat products contributed a lot to this indicator. Core inflation would have been 2.9% without this group of merchandise, believes the central bank of Belarus.
