Belarus, Angola keen to build joint assembly plants in Africa

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Angola plan to set up joint assembly plants in Africa, Angolan Foreign Minister Georges Rebelo Pinto Chicoti said following the negotiations with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

“As a result of the negotiations, we have agreed that Belarus-Angola relations have a vast potential that now requires practical implementation. We have discussed one of the bilateral projects on today's agenda, namely the construction of a plant to assemble Belarusian tractors in Angola. We have also exchanged views on setting up a plant to assemble Belarusian automotive vehicles and other products,” Georges Rebelo Pinto Chicoti pointed out.

The sides reviewed the prospects of expanding cooperation in defense and mining industry, too. Special emphasis was put on the ways of strengthening cooperation in science, technology, and education.

“We have agreed that we will make every effort to boost bilateral cooperation, develop the legal framework, and also work out the financing mechanisms to support the exports of Belarusian goods to Angola,” the diplomat emphasized.

For his part, Vladimir Makei highlighted that the two countries are set to take specific measures to carry out various joint projects in the nearest future. According to him, the sides will hold the meetings of financial, agricultural, industrial, and other experts. “I believe that these meetings will help us formulate concrete plans for further cooperation. It is vital that both countries are interested in it,” Vladimir Makei underlined.

The Belarusian and Angolan foreign ministers adopted a joint statement confirming the long-term friendly relations between Belarus and Angola and their commitment to developing cooperation. The sides agreed to continue a dialogue at all levels and stressed the importance of the Belarusian-Angolan ministerial consultations.
