Antimonopoly law violations detected in 25% of investigated cases in Belarus

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Investigations reveal the breach of the antimonopoly law in 25% of investigated cases, Deputy Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ivan Vezhnovets said during an online conference on BelTA's website.

“Over the seven months 2018, the commission for detecting violations of the antimonopoly law handled 71 cases; resolutions were made on 61 of them. The investigations revealed 17 incidents of breaking the antimonopoly law, which is 25% of all the cases,” Ivan Vezhnovets said.

He noted that an antimonopoly investigation with subsequent involvement of the commission is not initiated after each inquiry to the ministry. Reasons are many: from the absence of evidence suggesting possible violations to the withdrawal of the inquiry by the person who submitted it.

According to the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, about 40% of all detected violations are incidents of unfair competition; another 40% are decisions and actions of government agencies restricting competition; and about 11% of cases deal with the abuse of the dominant position.
