Year of Science

On 23 December 2016 Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed the decree to declare 2017 the Year of Science.

The main purpose of the decree is to bolster the role of science in the social and economic development of the country, enable comfortable conditions for preserving and developing the scientific potential, and shape Belarus' international image as a country with a high level of the intellectual and human capital.

First Belarusian electric car unveiled

The experimental car will allow finding optimal compositions for electric components, fine-tuning their parameters, paving way for the creation of a batch-produced prototype followed by the possible commercial production of electric cars in Belarus.

Plans to make flexible solar cells in Belarus

The Isovac enterprise in Belarus has started producing solar cells. “I certainly wish we could master the production of solar cells on a flexible substrate like panels on a polymeric base. It would expand the range of applications — any mats, a cover for a car, and so on,” said Sergei Chizhik.

Productive work of Belarusian remote sensing satellite noted

The BKA satellite has been working as part of the Belarusian-Russian orbital group of satellites for the remote sensing of Earth for five years already together with the Russian satellite Canopus-B. In this period the BKA satellite worked without any malfunctions.

Some $180m needed to create next Belarusian-Russian satellite

There are plans to insert the new satellite into orbit in late 2020 – 2021. It will become part of the existing Belarusian-Russian constellation of satellites, which are designed for the high-resolution remote sensing of Earth.

Tenth Belarusian expedition to land in Antarctica in December

According to the preliminary schedule shared by Russia, the ship will reach Antarctica in mid-December. The expedition will be evacuated in late February – early March 2018. For the first time ever the Belarusian expedition will stay in Antarctica for the winter. The necessary conditions are available for it.
Belarus eager to become consultative party to Antarctic Treaty

The preparation of a package of documents to get the consultative party status for Belarus is being discussed. The matter is of strategic importance. This status will allow Belarus to vote, participate in the development and adoption of decisions concerning the present and the future of Antarctica.
Belarus' first berry harvester undergoing testing

Currently, the berries are harvested in Belarus with the help of Polish and Italian made equipment. The new Belarusian harvester will help local farmers replace costly imported equipment.
