Year of Science

On 23 December 2016 Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed the decree to declare 2017 the Year of Science.

The main purpose of the decree is to bolster the role of science in the social and economic development of the country, enable comfortable conditions for preserving and developing the scientific potential, and shape Belarus' international image as a country with a high level of the intellectual and human capital.

The SKIF-GEO supercomputer is supposed to promptly handle any supercomputing tasks in the field. “In the past certain tasks needed 46-47 hours to accomplish. With supercomputers we can do the same within 7-8 minutes,” explained Sergei Kruglikov.
Geologists plan to continue looking for diamonds in Belarus

Diamond-bearing rocks have not been found in Belarus yet. However, geologists believe it is likely that there are such rocks in Belarus. Therefore, the research will be continued in the future although there will be no large-scale explorations.
