Major fossil find of extinct sea cow unearthed in Russia's Far East

"The discovery of the full skeleton of a Steller's sea cow is a significant event not only for the Komandorsky Nature Reserve but for the field of science in general. Museums across the globe have many skeletons of Steller's sea cows but most of them were found in the 19th century," the press service said. "The last discovery of a three-meter skeleton was made on the Bering Island [to the east of the Kamchatka peninsula] in 1987."

Victims, damage continue to rise two days after Pohang earthquake

At least 13 dead in flash flooding near Athens, rescue operation underway

The bodies of a hunter, truck driver, and two unidentified persons were found near the sea area, according to sources from local authorities, who expressed concern that the final tally may climb further after rescue teams reach areas where persons have been reported missing.

The quake occurred at around 2:29 p.m. some 9 kilometers north of Pohang and a series of aftershocks followed, the Korea Meteorological Administration said. It marked the second-strongest quake ever to hit South Korea after last year's magnitude 5.8 earthquake in the nearby city of Gyeongju.
