Big Conversation with the President

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will meet with members of the public, representatives of the Belarusian and foreign mass media on 3 February. The large-scale event will be held under the title The Big Conversation with the President. The meeting will be attended by about 40 journalists representing the biggest state-run and corporate Belarusian media outlets, popular websites, and major foreign mass media. Numerous experts, including famous political analysts, economists, and representatives of political parties, religions, and public associations are also invited. They will take part in the discussion of the most topical issues.

“Revenues need to be higher than they were or at least as high as they were. But revenues cannot be raised by increasing the tax burden. Instead revenues should be raised thanks to increased economic activity,” said the chairman of the Entrepreneurship Development Council.

BelTA reported earlier that a package of regulations meant to improve business operation terms in Belarus is now available for public discussion. The package includes a draft ordinance and several draft presidential decrees.

The general requirements the draft presidential decree specifies will be mandatory. Other norms and rules will be optional and can be adopted by commercial entities if they choose to do so.

The documents provide for cancelling all the effective fire hazard and sanitary regulations while a minimal number of new regulations in these spheres will be adopted by the presidential decree. The list will be limited only to essential requirements. The rest will be described as recommendations.

By 1 December 2017 the working group will have to come up with proposals to improve the system used to forecast how many specialists and blue-collar workers need to be trained in Belarus in order to satisfy the needs of the national economy.
