The organizing committee for celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing is led by Information Minister Lilia Ananich and Culture Minister Boris Svetlov. Some 60 events will be held to mark the anniversary.
The book Francysk Skaryna - a Globally Minded Person by the Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia Publishing House won the Printed Publication nomination. The photobook Minsk. Prospekt Nezavisimosti by the Belarusian publishing house Belovagrupp won The Best Photobook nomination.
According to Lilia Ananich, mass media will play a major role during Belarusian Written Language Day. The international television project Francysk Skaryna in Foreign Languages is being discussed with the Belarusian state television and radio company Belteleradiocompany.
Lilia Ananich noted: “Polotsk is a sacred city for us, the cradle of Belarusian statehood. It deserves the closest kind of attention. Such cities, which act as the centers of our spirituality, history, and culture, acquire a new development impulse during celebrations and anniversary events.”
The multi-volume project that will sum up what the country has achieved over the years of independence will become one of the most important book publishing projects launched in 2017 when the Belarusian book printing celebrates its 500th anniversary.
There is a chance that the book fragment will be displayed at an international exhibition that will celebrate Francysk Skaryna and his time. The exhibition will open at the National Library on 14 September.
The delegation of Belarusian book printers did not only present new books to visitors of the Paris Book Fair but also donated some of the publications to the Paris-based National Institute of Oriental Languages and Cultures (INALCO).
INALCO representatives spoke highly of the collection of Belarusian books. They noted it will help their students study Belarusian, which is taught in INALCO in addition to 94 other languages. Pierre-Frederic Garrett added that ten French first-year students have started studying Belarusian in INALCO this year.
A literary soiree dedicated to Maxim Bogdanovich's art took place in the cafe Cosmico in Madrid, Spain on 18 March. Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora and Spanish intellectuals, who are interested in Belarusian culture, took part in the event.
