Minsk is in a high degree of preparedness for the Second European Games, Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets told the media after the ceremony to sign a contract on holding the Second European Games in Minsk in 2019.
Several sport disciplines will be held as qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. These are badminton, boxing, cycling, canoeing and kayaking, judo, karate, athletics, archery, shooting, and table tennis.
Progress in preparing an expanded-participation session of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus was reviewed. A report on various aspects of preparing Minsk's power supply system for the 2019 European Games was presented.
In his words, in neighboring Poland, for instance, thousands of tourists stay at campsites during major cultural and sport events. “This kind of recreation is convenient and practical. A campsite can recoup its cost and even generate profits within one season,” noted the official.
Participants of the session discussed getting Minsk's infrastructure ready for the 2nd European Games, financing preparations for the games, the acquisition of the system to scan tickets, and the accommodation of the games' directorate.
The 2nd European Games received its fair share of attention during the government conference. The head of state was interested in whether there were any questions regarding the forthcoming hosting of the prestigious international competition.
Representatives of mass media from 52 countries, including Belarus, will visit the National Olympic Committee where a presentation of the country's sport achievements and the European Games 2019 will be arranged for them.
